This Habana cuvée is the result of a very special finishing process: the rum has been placed in ex-Bourbon oak casks that have contained Havana cigar leaves!

During this process, the flavours are transmitted to the rum, enriching it and giving it its complexity...

What can we learn from tasting this rum?

Quantity

Kuna Habana is the original marriage between rum from Panama and the famous cigar manufacturer Davidoff.

Davidoff ferments and ages its cigar leaves in American oak casks that have previously contained bourbon. It is these barrels that are reused to age Kuna Habana rum.

The traditional rum is distilled by Varela Hermanos (which also produces Abuelo). After an initial ageing in ex-bourbon American oak casks, it is transferred to the Davidoff casks mentioned above. This finish brings out its extraordinary empyreumatic aromas.

Tasting notes:

The nose of this rum is extremely surprising. There's no mistaking it, the cigar is 200% present. It's a fresh, rich tobacco that coats the nostrils from the outset. The notes of red fruit and heady flowers (rose) that follow also seem to emanate from the cigar leaf.

Airing brings out lightly toasted notes, like bread briefly put under the grill. Tobacco is unquestionably the only master on board, although it takes on a few nougat and chocolate aromas with time.

The palate is striking, with very powerful aromas of fermented tobacco and red fruit. The rum is fairly round, but the vegetal flavours outweigh everything and impose their complex flavours, with a certain sensation of acidity.

The finish is very distinctive and leaves a peppery impression on the tongue. It's the dry tobacco leaf that stays on the palate for a long time.

‘Quite simply a UFO. A rum dominated by tobacco leaf in all its forms...’.
