Launched in 1995 by the Cooley distillery, this was the first peated Irish single malt. 75% of the malted barley used is peated. On blind tasting, it is not at all reminiscent of the Irish style, and is much closer to a Scottish single malt in terms of body and aromatic character. The elegant, fragrant nose is reminiscent of malt and liquorice, with a hint of peat smoke. The smooth, well-balanced palate confirms the aromas on the nose. The finish is fairly long.

Connemara is Ireland's first peated whiskey. Named after one of Ireland's most famous regions, Connemara is one of nature's masterpieces.
The rugged Atlantic coastline and majestic mountains blend with rain-soaked bog lands to create a landscape of unique natural beauty. Connemara Peated captures the beauty of this region while reliving its traditions. A whiskey made by one of Ireland's independent distilleries: the Cooley distillery, founded in the late 1980s to challenge the monopoly created by Irish Distillers (owners of Midleton and, at the time, Bushmills).
In a short space of time, Cooley Distillery has become a significant player in the Irish whiskey market.
whiskey market. Connemara has won several gold medals since 1996, including a double-gold medal and the title of 'Best of Irish' at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2004. Traditional distillation methods combined with natural ingredients and long years in oak casks help to create a whiskey that is simply exceptional!
